फिल्म में रणवीर सिंह, करीना कपूर, आलिया भट्ट, विकी कौशल, जाह्नवी कपूर और अनिल कपूर मुख्य भूमिका निभाएंगे । यह जाह्नवी की दूसरी फिल्म है । पहले करण ने फिल्म 'धड़क' से जाह्नवी को लॉन्च किया । अब जाह्नवी की दूसरी फिल्म भी करण जौहर ही प्रोड्यूस करेंगे ।
फिल्म के पोस्टर को रिलीज करते हुए करण जौहर ने अपने सोशल मीडिया अकाउंट पर लिखा, 'इतिहास से जुड़ी यह एक अविश्वसनीय कहानी है। राजसी मुगल सिंहासन के लिए एक लड़ाई... एक कहानी परिवार की, महत्वकांक्षा की, लालच की, विश्वासघात की, प्रेम की और उत्तराधिकार की… तख्त युद्ध और प्यार के बारे में है ।'
फिल्म में जाह्नवी बिल्कुल अलग अवतार में नजर आएंगी । खबरों की मानें तो फिल्म में जाह्नवी और विकी कौशल पति-पत्नी के किरदार में होंगे । विकी, जाह्नवी से 9 साल बड़े हैं । दूसरी ही फिल्म में जाह्नवी का 9 साल बड़े एक्टर के साथ रोमांस करना काफी दिलचस्प होगा ।

Recently, during an interaction with an entertainment portal, Janhvi spoke about how she is not worried about being compared to her mom Sridevi. While speaking about the same she said that she is not even thinking about the comparisons. Janhvi added that she has never followed her mothers acting style nor she ever tried to stay away from it during her film 'Dhadak'. She revealed that she has seen only five movies of her mother.
When asked about the scripts that she would like to choose in the future, the actress said that she would like to play characters that will challenge her as an actor. She added that her mother used to always tell her that it’s not about the characters one plays, but how they are played.
According to recent reports, Janhvi Kapoor's second film will be a home production. Reportedly she will be in a glamorous avatar in her next film.

Sridevi breathed her last in Dubai due to accidental drowning in her hotel room's bathtub, after suffering a dizzying spell. The actress had gone to Dubai to attend the wedding of Mohit Marwah and Antra Motiwala with Boney Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Janhvi Kapoor was not part of the wedding as was busy with the shooting of 'Dhadak'.
In an interview with Janhvi spoke about the same and said “I didn’t spend much time with her. There were moments when I wanted to stay home with mom. But then I thought I’ll keep working and she’ll be happy at the end of it. Now, there are moments where I feel l should’ve allowed her to be part of this journey. But I wanted to do it on my own and then show it to her. The validation that I wanted from her, I now look for in her fans.”
