Sridevi (born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan; 13 August 1963 – 24 February 2018) was an Indian actress and film producer, who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films^.She was referred to as Indian cinema's first female superstar . She was also the recipient of a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards and three Filmfare Awards South. In a career that spanned five decades, she was known for her sensitive portrayals of women thrown into challenging situations and appeared in a range of genres, from slapstick comedy to melodrama. Sridevi ranked as the highest-paid woman in the Indian entertainment industry in the 1980s and 1990s and is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actresses in the history of Indian cinema.
Sridevi made her debut as child artiste with the 1967 Tamil film Kandhan Karunai at the age of 4and started her acting career in lead role as a child with M. A. Thirumugam’s 1969 mythological Tamil film Thunaivan and continued to act as a child artist in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. She made her Hindi film debut as a child artist in Rani Mera Naam (1972) and played her first adult role at age 13 with the Tamil film Moondru Mudichu (1976). Sridevi established herself as one of the leading actresses of South Indian Cinema, with roles in 16 Vayathinile (1977), Thulavarsham (1976), Sigappu Rojakkal (1978), Padaharella Vayasu (1978), Vetagadu (1979), Varumayin Niram Sivappu (1980), Meendum Kokila (1981), Premabhishekam (1981), Moondram Pirai (1982), Aakhari Poratam (1988), Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari (1990) and Kshana Kshanam (1991).
Sridevi's first starring role in Hindi cinema came with the 1979 drama film Solva Sawan, and she received wider recognition with the 1983 film Himmatwala. She quickly established herself as the leading actress of the industry after starring in a string of successful films, including Mawaali (1983), Tohfa (1984), Naya Kadam (1984), Maqsad (1984), Masterji (1985), Karma (1986), Nazrana (1987), Mr. India (1987), Waqt Ki Awaz (1988) and Chandni (1989). She received praise for such films as Sadma (1983), Nagina (1986), ChaalBaaz (1989), Lamhe (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992), Gumrah (1993), Laadla (1994) and Judaai (1997). Following the role of the titular protagonist in the television sitcom Malini Iyer (2004–2005), Sridevi returned to film acting in 2012 with the successful comedy-drama English Vinglish. She then starred in her 300th film role in the 2017 thriller Mom. She earned critical acclaim for her performances in both films, and for the latter was posthumously awarded the National Film Award for Best Actress.
In 2013, the Government of India awarded Sridevi the Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian accolade for her contributions to the entertainment industry. Honorary awards were also conferred on her by the state governments of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Sridevi was also voted 'India's Greatest Actress in 100 Years' in a CNN-IBN national poll conducted in 2013 on the occasion of the centenary of Indian cinema.
On February 24, 2018, Sridevi was found dead in her guest room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The official coroner's report showed that she had accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with unconsciousness cited as a contributing factor.^[19] News of her death featured prominently in Indian and international media. She was married to the film producer Boney Kapoor, with whom she had two children.

हिंदी सिनेमाजगत में लेडी अमिताभ कही जानी वाली एक्ट्रेस श्रीदेवी अब हमारे बीच नहीं रही। श्रीदेवी का निधन दुबई में होटल के कमरे में बाथटब में डूबने की वजह से हुआ था। 13 अगस्त को इस मशहूर और चुलबुली अदाकारा का जम्मदिन है। अगर वह हमारे बीच होती तो इस तारीख को अपना 55वां जन्मदिन मनाती। श्रीदेवी ने बॉलीवुड में 4 दशक से भी ज्यादा समय तक लोगों का अपनी एक्टिंग से मनोरंजन किया। तो चलिए आपको श्रीदेवी से जुड़े कुछ अनकहे किस्से बताते हैं।

बहुत ही कम लोग इस बात को जानते होंगे कि श्रीदेवी का असली नाम श्रीदेवी नहीं था। श्रीदेवी का असली नाम अम्मा यंगर अयप्पन था। श्रीदेवी पहली ऐसी अभिनेत्री थी जिन्हें सुपरस्टार का खिताब मिला था। कहा जाता है कि श्रीदेवी को स्टीवन स्पिलबर्ग ने 'जुरासिक पार्क' फिल्म में छोटा सा रोल ऑफर किया था। उस वक्त श्रीदेवी ने इस रोल को यह कहकर मना कर दिया था कि वह उनके कद के मुताबिक नहीं है। 

श्रीदेवी ने बॉलीवुड के ज्यादातर एक्टर्स के साथ काम किया है। दिलचस्प बात यह है कि सारी ही फिल्में सुपरहिट रहीं। कहा जाता है कि साल 1989 में रिलीज हुई 'चालबाज' फिल्म का सुपरहिट गाना 'न जाने कहा से आई है' की शूटिंग श्रीदेवी ने 103 डिग्री के बुखार में की थी। श्रीदेवी ने अपने फिल्मी करियर में सबसे ज्यादा फिल्में अनिल कपूर के साथ की हैं। 

कहा जाता है कि 'बेटा' फिल्म सबसे पहले श्रीदेवी को ऑफर की गई थी लेकिन उन्होंने यह कहते हुए इसे करने से इंकार कर दिया था कि वह अनिल के साथ कई सारी फिल्में कर चुकी हैं। श्रीदेवी की दो बेटिया हैं खुशी और जाह्नवी। कहा जाता है अपनी दोनों बेटियों का नाम श्रीदेवी ने पति बोनी कपूर की दो फिल्मों के देखने के बाद रखा था।  इन फिल्मों का नाम 'जुदाई' और 'हमारा दिल आपके पास है।' 

बॉलीवुड में शुरुआती दौर में श्रीदेवी को हिंदी बोलने में थोड़ी दिक्कत होती थी। कहा जाता है कि 'आखिरी रास्ता' फिल्म में श्रीदेवी की आवाज रेखा ने डब की की थी। इससे पहले श्रीदेवी की कई फिल्मों में मशहूर एक्ट्रेस नाज उन्हें कई फिल्मों में अपना आवाज दे चुकी हैं। महज 13 साल की उम्र में श्रीदेवी ने साउथ सुपरस्टार रजनीकांत की मां का रोल किया था। इस फिल्म का नाम 'मूंदरू मुदित' था। इस बात से ही आप अंदाजा लगा सकते हैं कि श्रीदेवी प्रतिभा की धनी थी।
 

श्रीदेवी ने महज 4 साल की उम्र से सिनेमाजगत में डेब्यू किया था। इस फिल्म का नाम 'थुनाइवन' था। इस फिल्म में श्रीदेवी ने भगवान 'मुरगन' का किरदार निभाया था। श्रीदेवी और सलमान खान के बीच खास बॉन्ड था। कहा जाता है कि सलमान खान ही वह शख्स ने जिन्होंने दोबारा श्रीदेवी को पेन्टिंग बनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया। यहां तक कि श्रीदेवी की बनाई गई पेन्टिंग विदेशों में भी काफी फेमस हो गई थी। 

श्रीदेवी ने शाहरुख खान और करिश्मा कपूर की फिल्म 'शक्ति: द पॉवर' को प्रोड्यूस किया था। कहा जाता है कि श्रीदेवी इस फिल्म में एक्टिंग करने वाली थी लेकिन वह प्रेग्नेंट थी जिस वजह से वह यह फिल्म नहीं कर पाई थीं। श्रीदेवी का निधन 24 फरवरी 2018 को हुआ था। इस तारीख से ठीक एक दिन पहले दिव्या भारती की डेथ एनिवर्सरी थी। जिस दिन श्रीदेवी का निधन हुआ था उसी दिन उनकी सुपरहिट फिल्म 'हिम्मतवाला' को रिलीज हुए 35 साल हुए थे।
